Walnut wood is hard, dense and tight-grained. It's prized by woodworkers for its strength, grain and colour. It polishes to a very smooth finish and is dark chocolate in colour. Walnut has a beautiful grain and over the years, develops a lustrous patina.

Maple hardwood is cream to pale reddish brown in colour and is renowned for its strength and resistance to shock. The lighter colour offers more variety when choosing stains and greater contrast when engraved. Straight grained with a fine texture it also has a high resistance to abrasion and wear.
